Gather Your Tools and Supplies
Help the job go smoothly by preparing everything you expect to need before you tear anything apart. Gather screwdrivers, drywall screws, drywall anchors, a linesman tool, a tape measure and wire connectors, as noted by The Home Depot. You’ll also need your chosen track lighting kit. Whether you use your vintage light switches with your track lighting or choose new to match the new lighting is up to you and how you feel the switches will blend with your decor.
Track Lighting Types
There are two types of track lighting, and where you plan to mount your lighting can determine which will work best for you. One type plugs into a regular wall outlet, making it a suitable option if you plan to mount the lighting near a socket. The other type is hardwired into your junction box, making it the right type to use if you want the track lighting mounted where your current light fixture is. If you want to put this type of lighting in a spot where there’s no junction box, you’ll need to have a new junction box installed in the desired location, which is a job for a qualified electrician, according to Lowe’s.
